Located in the Castelo de Paiva region, it is great for nature lovers, with many valleys and forests, rivers and streams. There are many beautiful walks, including in the nearby mountain ranges of Freita and the Montemuro. The river Paiva offers the opportunity for exciting rafting descents, with many other outdoor sports nearby, including canyoning and jet skiing.

There are several sites of historical and cultural interest, including the monastery of Arouca, São Domingos hill, and the frescos of Castelo de Paiva’s church. The house is only half an hour from Porto, so is also a good choice for exploring the city, with its historic centre and port wine producing cellars across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia. Located in the Lower Douro, a day trip by boat or train up the river to the port producing vineyards is very much recommended.

Nearby, the village of Pedorido has many restaurants serving traditional food from the region, interesting shops (including a supermarket) and several beaches along the river.

Nearest Airport: Porto Airport: 55km

Overlooking the River Douro and surrounded by beautiful gardens, this manor house is an ideal place to relax, whether from the terrace or in the grounds. It is also very well located to explore the area, including the city of Porto, the Castelo de Paiva region and the Douro valley.

The spacious and impeccably maintained house has four en suite bedrooms, all with large bathrooms giving the property a luxurious feel. It is classically decorated with traditional Portuguese oak furniture – though it remains very homely and relaxing, especially in the lounge. Apart from the kitchen, all the rooms have windows overlooking the river. The kitchen is very well equipped and has direct access to the terrace and eating area.

Outside you are free to explore the grounds of the house, which offer many interesting walks, including an old pond and paths to the river. A large variety of trees, plants and flowers are beautiful in all the seasons. There are many places to sit and enjoy a drink, but most people spend a lot of time on the terrace, just next to the house’s entrance and offering fantastic views. It is ideal for eating out at lunchtime and during the summer evenings. There are also many activities for the family, including a table tennis table outside in the old stables.

The house is ‘upside down’, as you go up to the entrance (see photo), with the reception rooms and one bedroom on the first floor, and the three other bedrooms downstairs. This gives an elevated position to the lounge and terrace.

Casa de Oliveira: In addition to the main manor house, the estate has a smaller two bedroom cottage to sleep four people, that can be rented if needed. It is also stylishly decorated and has great views over the river. Below the cottage are the old stables and outside there are several places to eat, with garden furniture and a barbeque provided.
